The Highgate Society

One of Highgate’s institutions. The Highgate Society a voluntary organisation with around 1200 members run solely by volunteers. Based on Pond square in the heart of the village. Established to fight the governments’ decision to try and route traffic through the heart of Highgate, subsequently winning that fight. The Highgate Society remained and has continued to be the custodian of what makes Highgate, Highgate.

The Society takes the preservation of the village seriously and strives to maintain and improve what remains of the Historic Village and its community feel. But it isn’t all looking back and preserving the ethos is more than that. There is a look to the future and how Highgate can adapt a built environment that is energetic and forward-thinking. The very modern next to the very old.

Often as estate agents in Highgate we are called in to assist clients in their decision-making. A new extension, a build plot, conversion of air space on top of blocks of slats. We often will refer the client to The Highgate Society as they are able to work in tandem with us and the client to produce a scheme in line with the community thinking and ethos of the area.

The Highgate Society isn’t just there to preserve the village aesthetics they are truly part of the community, a place we advise new movers to explore. Running many community events from their building from fitness classes, talks and lectures and coffee mornings it is a good first step in helping people become more involved in the community. So head over and say hello. The tea is top notch by the way!
